3/8” Silky Ribbon or Cord
2 Single Hole Plastic Cord Locks
Snips
Darning Needle
Tape Measure
Notes:
  • For this quick and easy make; I used a #4 medium worsted yarn cake on hand, but this project is perfect for #4 Medium stash yarn with these tried and true hints:
  • To accomplish a tightly woven fabric I used a smaller hook, dropping down from the yarns suggested 5mm hook to a 3mm hook.

  • While a traditional single crochet stitch (yarn over) will work, you’ll get a tighter fabric with Yarn Under Single Crochet (yusc). Simply pull up the yarn under your hook vs. over the hook -view it HERE. This variation might seem awkward at first, but it will be second nature after working a row or 2.
  • Beginning ch 2 counts as first st in each row; that is why you skip the st at the base of each chain and start working in the second st of each row of this pattern.
  • Count your stitches every of 2-3 rows to be sure you have 106 sts. It’s easy to drop the last st over several rows, making uneven edges and unnecessary frogging -count frequently!
PATTERN
Finished piece should measure approx. 24” wide x 11” deep to form your “tube”.
  • Row 1: Using 4mm hook for this row ONLY. Ch 108 st.
  • Row 2: With 3mm hook, yarn under sc (yusc) 106 st. Turn.
  • Row 3: Ch 2 yusc 106 st across. Turn.
  • Rows 4 - 58: Ch 2 yusc 106 st across until the depth of your “tube” measures approx. 11”. Adjust row count as necessary for 11” depth before moving to nxt step Joining & End Caps.

  • ROUND 59: Sc join long edge. Slip hook under front loop (front facing side) and back loop (back facing side), pull up a loop and sc evenly in corresponding to end of tube. Temporarily secure yarn –don’t fasten off.
Turn tube inside out so the right side is now on the outside of the tube. Start finishing first end where the yarn is attached at end of row 5.
  • ROUND 60: Ch 2, hdc in nxt st and evenly in each end row stitch around circumference to first hdc. Ss in the top of the first st.
  • ROUND 61: Switch to 4mm hook, ch 2, sc around circumference to beginning. SS to top of ch 2.
  • ROUND 62: Ch 2, *sc in nxt st, sk 1 st* repeating from * to * around to first sc. Ss to top of 1st sc, fowe.
  • Repeat ROUNDS 60 - 63 on opposite end joining yarn in any sc.
  • Insert Drawstrings: Cut two 30” lengths of 3/8” ribbon or cord and use a blunt end between the sts made in round 62, then feed both ends of the cord through a cord stop and knot ends together. Finish raw the raw edges with fray check or white glue to prevent unraveling.
Your Space Saver Neck Pillow is ready to stuff and go!
